PowerTerm® WebConnect 3.0 Provides Fat and Thin Client Configurations, SSL Secured Software, System Manager Tool and More

Hackensack, NJ July 2000...Ericom ® Software, Inc., a leading developer of enterprise connectivity, e-business, wireless and B2B (business-to-business) applications, and web enabling software solutions, announces the release of PowerTerm WebConnect 3.0, now with both Fat and Thin Client configurations. In addition, PowerTerm WebConnect includes Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) security and a powerful System Manager tool. With PowerTerm WebConnect, corporations can allow partners, employees and branch offices to run mission-critical applications via the web and from any Java-enabled desktop with full security. PowerTerm WebConnect uses SSL encryption algorithms from the industry standard RSA Security, Inc.

PowerTerm WebConnect's client server architecture works with hosts such as IBM AS/400, IBM Mainframe, UNIX, HP, Digital and others, providing expanded and reliable access to the enterprise network from any Java-based system.

Fat Client
PowerTerm WebConnect 3.0 now includes a Fat Client, which is more efficient for intranet and local area network configurations. The dual configuration of both Thin Client and Fat Client provides the most flexibility when utilizing both Internet and intranet applications.

Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) - Tiny Applet
PowerTerm WebConnect with SSL continues to expand Ericom's position in the Web-to-Host connectivity market, addressing the need for high-level security, cross-platform compatibility, and increased flexibility in host access. PowerTerm WebConnect runs on Windows NT, Windows 95, 98 and 2000 platforms as well as on the Mac, UNIX terminals and network computers. The Java Thin Client is downloaded from the client's web browser (a tiny 200k applet), making it simple to connect to any host via the central server.

Highest Level of Security for Browser Based Sessions
The unique Web-to-Host solution supports built-in security. Secure sessions using Internet standard SSL secure sessions provides data encryption, server authentication, message integrity and optional client authentication for a TCP/IP connection. Thus allowing users to work in a safe and protected environment. PowerTerm WebConnect also supports secured connection between the client and the server even in cases where the host does not support SSL.

System Manager Tool
PowerTerm WebConnect's Systems Manager tool provides remote assistance for users directly from a System Administrator. Now, for the "first time", a System Administrator and user can work on the same exact session, looking at the same exact screen, using PCs from two different locations. From a remote location, this allows a System Administrator to see exactly what the user is doing. In addition, the System Administrator can make changes on the same screen to instruct the user. This permits the System Administrator to provide immediate assistance to users on a "live", one-on-one basis.

The System Manager tool is especially helpful for remote users, multiple office locations and the occasional user who might need assistance. This feature can be extremely valuable for companies that need to train new employees, assist employees on a new legacy application or for general on-going, day-to-day support. In addition, a System Administrator can now monitor the entire system remotely, checking on which sessions are open, how many and who has current access to what application.

Ericom CEO and Founder Eran Heyman said, "Today's MIS manager faces an unprecedented challenge in providing expanded access to legacy systems together with concern for security. PowerTerm WebConnect incorporates the latest industry encryption algorithms and emerging technologies to meet these needs while enabling end-users to increase performance and productivity, and enhance a corporation's return on investment."

Centralized Management
PowerTerm WebConnect is an ideal solution, offering MIS and system managers single-point installation. PowerTerm WebConnect is easily installed in minutes onto the server and configured for all users. PowerTerm WebConnect eliminates time consuming installation of the terminal emulation program on each individual client. The system manager configures, deploys and monitors PowerTerm WebConnect on the server, reducing installation time and overhead. The product's client-server architecture provides unlimited scalability for any size business.

Customizable and User-Friendly Interface
PowerTerm WebConnect has all the traditional features of the PowerTerm Java series of terminal emulators, including multiple concurrent sessions, history scroll bar for session review, intelligent copy & paste block/lines/words and more.
