Ericom Provides Access Management for Parallels’ Container-Based Virtual Desktop Infrastructures (VDI)
Support for Parallels Virtuozzo Containers extends Ericom’s lead as a platform-agnostic solution
Closter, NJ, (September 9, 2008) - Ericom Software, a global leader in Application Access and Virtualization solutions, today announced that Ericom’s PowerTerm® WebConnect now provides centrally managed access to virtual desktops running on Parallels Virtuozzo Containers, an OS-level server virtualization technology that partitions the underlying operating system into multiple isolated containers, so that many workloads or virtual desktops can be run simultaneously on the same physical box.
Desktop virtualization offers organizations numerous benefits such as simplified desktop management, improved application compatibility, and reduced desktop power consumption and space requirements. Together, Ericom’s PowerTerm WebConnect and Parallels Virtuozzo Containers accelerate the delivery of virtual desktops and its benefits for the organization.
Ericom's Desktop Virtualization (VDI) and Presentation Virtualization (SBC) solution, PowerTerm WebConnect, provides secure and managed access to Virtual Desktops, Windows Terminal Servers, Blade PCs and legacy host systems. The solution enables organizations to centrally manage and deploy virtual desktops based on Parallels Virtuozzo Containers from within the datacenter and hosting facilities - reducing the cost and complexity of traditional desktop PC management. As a comprehensive solution for virtualized desktop environments, Ericom’s PowerTerm WebConnect increases security and desktop manageability, enables business continuity implementations, and provides a superior, customizable desktop experience.
Eran Heyman, Ericom Founder and CEO commented, “Ericom and Parallels can now offer organizations a comprehensive platform for desktop virtualization. The intuitiveness of the combined solution expedites virtual desktop deployments – allowing organizations to quickly leverage the capabilities and cost-savings of a virtualized desktop environment. We provide the flexibility of having VDI hosted internally by the IT department or externally by a third party service provider.”
"This partnership enables us to further meet the needs of organizations interested in reducing their total cost of desktop ownership while simplifying management, support and protection of their computing environment,” said Serguei Beloussov, Parallels CEO. “Parallels Virtuozzo Containers delivers up to three times the number of virtual desktops per physical server versus a hypervisor-based VDI solution, making it a far more cost-effective solution.”
For PowerTerm WebConnect licensing, Ericom offers both perpetual licensing for Parallels Virtuozzo Containers on-premise implementations and subscription licensing for Parallels Virtuozzo Containers based hosting environments.
