Ericom Software Incorporates SSL within PowerTerm
New Feature Represents First Phase of Integrated VPN Security Solution
May 10, 1999-Jerusalem, Israel -- Ericom Software, a leading developer of enterprise connectivity software solutions, today announced that it has integrated Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) and Transport Layer Security (TLS) into its PowerTerm host access products. These features represent the first phase of an integrated VPN product Ericom is planning to release during the third quarter of 1999.
The Ericom SSL security extensions support the strongest industry encryption and authentication standards. SSL is a widely-implemented protocol for authenticating and encrypting communications between peers across the Internet, Intranet and Extranet. SSL, as well as the newer TLS protocol, enables peers to authenticate through the use of digital certificates and to communicate using security policies that encrypt the flow of data across the network.
With SSL, organizations can comfortably and safely extend access to host systems beyond the local network. SSL represents the first release of security features planned by Ericom in 1999 to enhance PowerTerm's functionality in the ever-changing host access industry.
Ericom's latest product release is designed to meet industry standards for interoperability. Ericom's solutions will enable users to connect to such devices as IBM's new AS/400 operating system (V4R4), as well as other SSL enabled systems, in a secure mode from any location.
PowerTerm with SSL security will enable any sized organization to extend access to mission-critical legacy applications to remote and mobile users, strategic partners, and branch offices with the knowledge that these valuable resources are secured.
"By integrating SSL into PowerTerm, Ericom answers a growing market need for security considerations when accessing the data residing on legacy systems," said Ericom CEO Eran Heyman. "The growth of the web and corporate Intranets, poses a serious challenge for today's MIS manager in extending access to the enterprise network. With SSL, Ericom adds strong security to an already powerful and robust connectivity solution, PowerTerm."
The SSL feature will be incorporated into the PowerTerm series of products including PowerTerm, PowerTerm InterConnect, PowerTerm Plus, PowerTerm Pro and PowerTerm CE.
