Grand Survey: K–12 Schools Embrace Chromebooks – But Still Depend on Windows

Ericom - Education

Educators and IT decision-makers representing over half a million elementary, intermediate, and high school students are turning to mobile technology as a strategy to improve learning.

Faced with the challenge of supplying cost-efficient mobile devices, K-12 schools are embracing Chromebooks as a desktop alternative. However, with a heavy dependence on Windows applications, schools are looking for ways to address the gap between Windows desktop and web and cloud-based applications by searching for an all-in-one solution that allows them to use Chromebooks without sacrificing access to Windows and other applications.

Survey highlights:

  • Over 80% of respondents prefer mobile devices over desktops for educational use
  • 62% of respondents' schools support Chromebooks initiatives and 22% of those schools use Chromebooks as a primary device
  • 92% of respondents indicate that their schools use at least one Windows application and 29% use five or more Windows applications to support learning
  • 60% of respondents believe that browser-based access to Windows applications would make Chromebooks a viable solution for their schools
