Release of AccessNow and Blaze 3.1

We are happy to announce the release of AccessNow v3.1 and Blaze v3.1 with enhancements that raise their performance levels to new heights and strengthen Ericom’s position as a leader in remote access, mobility and cloud computing. By taking advantage of these new versions, you can provide greater value to your customers by making life easier for their IT staff while improving usability and end-user productivity. The new features and enhancements are summarized below.

AccessNow

This new version delivers dramatic performance improvements over 2.x for enhanced end-user productivity and experience. Video is clearer and smoother and the rendering engine has been extensively optimized for performance, so users can work at interactive speeds even when performing resource-intensive, graphics-rich tasks. AccessNow 3.1 also incorporates improved RDP compression and acceleration technology developed within the framework of the newest release of Ericom Blaze, version 3.1.

Other notable features in this release include:

  • Time zone redirection — uses client time zone in remote applications or desktops
  • Print screen functionality is available within the remote session via keyboard shortcut
  • Additional touch and tap gestures are supported (e.g., hold and swipe to drag an object)
  • Enhanced multilingual support

    NOTE: This version is NOT backwards compatible with AccessNow version 2.x — see Compatibility section below.

Blaze 3.1

  • Major performance enhancements over previous versions, including improved video and audio support. Audio and video are clearer and smoother and the rendering engine has been extensively optimized for performance, so users can work at interactive speeds even when performing resource-intensive, graphics-rich tasks
  • Added audio compression, which can reduce the bandwidth by half when playing movies
  • Blaze can now validate and enforce server side certificates
  • Command line support for Microsoft options
  • Improved reconnect functionality when using the Ericom Secure Gateway
  • The Blaze Server is now called Ericom Access Server. It is a unified server serving AccessNow and Blaze clients

    NOTE: This version is NOT backwards compatible with Blaze version 2.x and AccessToGo version 2.x — see Compatibility section below.

New Ericom Access Server

The AccessNow and Blaze servers have been unified into one server called Ericom Access Server, which will serve both AccessNow and Blaze sessions while counting the licenses separately. This will make it easier to deploy both products in your environment.

Other notable features in this release include:

  • Ericom Access Server is available in 64 Bit & 32 Bit versions to make best use of system resources
  • Ericom Access Server now uses standard Windows SSL for improved stability and performance

    NOTE: This server version is NOT backwards compatible with AccessNow version 2.x or Blaze version 2.x — see Compatibility section below.

Compatibility Considerations

As noted above, the AccessNow and Blaze servers have been unified into the new Ericom Access Server in order to simplify deployments for those using both products. As a result, Ericom Access Server is not compatible with previous versions of AccessNow or Blaze.

Ericom Secure Gateway users — Please make sure to update your “AccessNow” web pages folder to the latest version included with Ericom Access Server

AccessNow users — Ericom Access Server is not compatible with earlier AccessNow web page versions, and the latest AccessNow web page versions are not compatible with earlier AccessNow servers. Please make sure to upgrade all components to the latest version

Blaze users — Ericom Access Server is not compatible with earlier Blaze client versions, and earlier Blaze server versions are not compatible with Blaze 3.1 clients. So please make sure to upgrade your Blaze server and Blaze clients and the Ericom Secure Gateway component to the latest versions

PowerTerm WebConnect users — Please update the AccessNow web pages, blaze.cab and the RemoteView MSI


Where can they get it?

Your existing customers with valid support / maintenance agreements can download the new versions from our update center — http://www.ericom.com/update.asp. They will need to enter their serial number.

Prospects that are not yet customers, or existing customers without valid support / maintenance agreements, can download an evaluation version by selecting the relevant product from our download center — http://www.ericom.com/ptsoftware.asp.
