I’m writing this blog post using Microsoft Office Word 2010 running on Windows 7 on my office computer. Revolutionary? NOT! What certainly is revolutionary is that I’m connected to my office computer from home, using Ericom’s AccessNow pure HTML5 RDP client running inside Google Chrome browser.
To use AccessNow I did not need to install any software or plugins, or configure anything, on my home computer. Instead I simply browsed to this page, provided the appropriate connection information and clicked Connect. Installing the Ericom AccessNow Server on the RDP host – my office computer – took all of three minutes. Since I’m connecting from outside our corporate network, I’m using the Ericom Secure Gateway server, which means a VPN is not required.
From my own personal experience, I find that AccessNow performs as well as a native RDP client over the WAN. I can even surf the web using a browser inside the browser, including watching videos on YouTube! (We are currently working on adding sound support.) And you can use AccessNow to connect to any RDP host: Terminal Server (RDS Session Host), physical desktop or virtual desktop. You can also publish both full desktops and applications. This means that you can use AccessNow for instant, turnkey webification / web-enablement of most any Windows application!
