The daily deluge of malware, ransomware and other attack vectors is driving the need for new thinking around Web security. Existing IT frameworks are largely made up of antivirus, firewalls, and other types of “detect and block” solutions. Widely used, these tools offer different methods to protect enterprises from Internet-borne threats, but are largely reactive in scope.
Secure remote browsing technology represents a more proactive approach, enabling organizations to run container-based, virtual browser instances from a remote server. All browsing activity is executed by the virtual browser, remains in the container and never reaches the endpoint that initiated the browsing session. Thus, potentially malicious web content is intercepted, isolated and neutralized before it can wreak havoc.
Since April we have spoken with multiple industry security analysts including Gartner, Forrester, Ovum, 451 Research, ESG, EMA, and Osterman and they all acknowledge the need for new Internet security tools. Secure remote browsing, also known as browser isolation, represents the next wave. In fact, Gartner recognizes remote browsing as a top security technology in 2017.
The market for remote browsing is heating up. Symantec’s recent acquisition of Fireglass further validates this assertion. We applaud Fireglass for their contribution in this space and look forward to educating the market on why secure remote browsing is here to stay.
Two years ago, we launched a strategic initiative focused on evolving our technology portfolio around secure browsing, as it offers a logical next step in Internet security, especially in the enterprise market. As a long-term technology leader in delivering enterprise-grade secure remote access, desktop virtualization (VDI), and web security solutions, Ericom is excited to be able to leverage these assets with Ericom Shield, our second-generation secure remote browsing solution.
We first unveiled Ericom Shield at InfoSecurity Europe in June. The reaction has been very positive and industry influencers agree that Ericom Shield is the one to beat right now.
We look forward to providing organizations of all sizes with the freedom to allow their employees to safely browse the web while keeping web-borne threats away from their endpoints.
