Fast Remote Access for VMware View

| 582
SHARE:

Chris Wolf, research vice president for Gartner’s IT Professionals service, recently wrote an article in which he compared the remote access performance of VMware View 4.5 and Citrix XenDesktop 4.0 SP1. The purpose of the test was “… to see how both the ICA/HDX (XenDesktop) and PCoIP (View) protocols stood up to varying real-world network conditions.” Chris’ summary of his results:

To summarize, I found that as latency increased beyond 200 ms, ICA/HDX had a decided advantage over PCoIP. Text entry and menu response with ICA/HDX was still good enough to keep me productive, while the PCoIP response hampered productivity. When latency was relatively low (e.g., under 120 ms) both protocols performed well enough to meet my expectations.

Does this mean that VMware View should not be used when remote access over higher latency connections is required? What about organizations that have already deployed VMware View and discover that remote access performance over slower connections is insufficient for their needs? Fortunately there is a solution:

Ericom Blaze 1.4.6 introduces integration with VMware View 4.x. Ericom Blaze can now function as a VMware View client, allowing users to log into View, access the list of available desktops and launch the desired desktops, just like the standard View client. Since Ericom Blaze was specifically designed for low-bandwidth / high-latency connections, using Ericom Blaze as the VMware View client directly addresses and solves problems such as those encountered by Chris Wolf. In this way, Ericom Blaze enhances VMware View with unhampered productivity and great user experience for remote users.
